Can you feel it? Was that a bit of cool air in the breeze? Yep – fall is just around the corner. If you, like me, are a native San Antonian, when the mercury drops below 90 degrees, it’s time to celebrate. Things are going to start cooling off, so it’s time to get outside to enjoy this “new” weather. To commemorate this shifting of the season, I wanted to look at some places that have awesome patios for outdoor dining and drinking.
High Street Wine Co. – this place is probably my new favorite location on the entire planet. If you have not been to this gem of a bar, drop everything and go right now. High Street focuses exclusively on beer and wine. They have one of the best and most varied selections I’ve seen in town and all at reasonable prices with no snobbishness attached. They have a great patio that looks out onto one of the Pearl’s fantastic community spaces.
The Pearl Brewery Bottling Department – After you savor a bottle of wine or some beers at High Street, stroll around the corner to the Pearl’s new food hall. Food halls are all the rage right now – especially across the pond in Europe. San Antonio’s first addition is no slack in the category. With various options that will make the entire family happy, you can camp out here for hours. My favorite part of the food hall is the positioning of the specialty donuts right next to the healthy food option. Balance – gotta love it.
Cappy’s Restaurant – Walking up to Cappy’s, you are immediately met by their fabulous patio that is surrounded by big shady trees. You can kick back and enjoy the thoughtfully prepared dishes with every detail of presentation attended to. My personal favorite is the prime rib served on Friday nights. Fall breezes, red wine, and a beautiful cut of beef – paradise.
Virtually every place in Southtown – Let’s be real. Basically every restaurant in the Southtown area has some kind of outdoor seating area. With the explosion of new concepts run by an eclectic mixture of newcomers and seasoned restaurant veterans, no matter what you choose you are likely to have a great experience.
Your own back yard/balcony – Maybe it’s not a restaurant, but there is a special beauty in stepping out the back door and enjoying a quiet cup of coffee or beer on your own patio. I’m a big fan of waking up right around sunrise and sitting outside to read the newspaper. You can watch the world wake up and catch some moments of quiet reflection at the same time.
I hope this modest list of ideas gets you up and out of the house. Fall is coming everyone – let’s enjoy every minute of it!
Cheers,
Brandon
